Rusty travels abroad to fulfil his dream of becoming a writer!
In his early twenties now, Rusty finally leaves Dehra and books a passageto England, dreaming of writing and selling his novel abroad. First inJersey, and then in in London, he works as a clerk by day and writes inthe evenings. Eventually, the novel is finished and Rusty even finds apublisher. But this, he discovers, does not mean that his book will see thelight of day soon.
But London has many adventures in store for Rusty. Strolling down BakerStreet, he runs into Sherlock Holmes, is accosted by Rudyard Kiplingand has an escapade in the Chinese quarter! After three years abroad,however, Rusty realizes that he wants to make India his permanent home.Returning to Dehra, he renews some acquaintances and makes a fewnew ones, and settles into his role as full-time author.

About the author
Born in Kasauli in 1934, Ruskin Bond grew up in Jamnagar, Dehradun,New Delhi and Shimla. His first novel, The Room on the Roof, written whenhe was seventeen, received the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in1957. Since then he has written over five hundred short stories, essaysand novellas (some included in the collections Dust on the Mountains andClassic Ruskin Bond) and more than forty books for children.
He received the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in India in1993, the Padma Shri in 1999, and the Delhi government's LifetimeAchievement Award in 2012. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi's BalSahitya Puraskar for his 'total contribution to children's literature' in 2013and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He lives in Landour,Mussoorie, with his extended family.
